Wow, I had an amazing weekend with the launch of a company that I am blessed to be a part of.. History was made and I can't even begin to explain the excitement!!! We started with world renowned naturopathic physicians & successful entrepreneurs to money on a silver platter.
We met so many wonderful people, learned so many great things but the one person or part of the event that was the most compelling was meeting Allison Levine. Who is Allison and why? She is an amazing woman to put it very simply.... In 2002, Alison served as the team captain of the first American Women's Everest Expedition, a history-making climb that would put her heart and her spirit to the test. She is avid explorer and adventurer, Alison also traveled across the Arctic Circle for more than 100 miles to successfully reach the top of the world -- the geographic North Pole. In 2008 she made history as the first American to complete an arduous 600 mile ski-traverse along the "Messner Route" in west Antarctica to the bottom of the world -- the geographic South Pole. Her success in extreme environments is noteworthy given Alison suffers from Raynaud's Disease which causes the arteries that feed her fingers and toes to collapse in cold weather, leaving her at extreme risk for frostbite. Allison's message is Dare to Dream More, Dare To Achieve More than You Thought Possible. As Allison puts it simply "The skills required to climb big mountains are no different from the skills required to succeed in business. Leadership, teamwork, determination, tenacity, and the ability to adapt to a changing environment are as critical in the jet stream as they are in the workplace". Sure there will be storms to face, challenges, fears and moments of doubt but in order to make it to the top, these must all be faced and over come. I'm not going to try to even explain her journey through life or up the mountain. I did learn that you just don't climb until you get to the top. You must climb up and back down, up and back down... over & over again. You can read her story yourself, but nothing is as compelling as hearing the words flow from her mouth. Life is not about the destination but about the journey it takes to get there.
